3 Reasons New Year's Resolutions Fail and What You Can Do About it to Succeed in 2021

We've all been there...well intentioned, armed, and ready for change come January 1st. A few short weeks later by February if we're lucky we got that far we are frazzled, disgusted, or in denial that we totally bombed our New Year Resolutions again.
This year can be different. Here's 3 reasons why New Year's resolutions fail and what you can do about to succeed in 2021.
1. The change is too drastic.
If you go all in, it is just as easy to go all out. Instead break down your goal into manageable, realistic steps to sustain the change process over time. As you build momentum in the small steps, the bigger goal is more likely to be achieved even in the face of obstacles and setbacks.
2. The resolution is too vague.
If you set a goal that is not clearly connected to some intrinsically motivating desire, then it is easy to shelf the goal. Instead take time to search your motivations and desires to set a well-defined goal that inspires you to go the distance.
3. You are in self-effort mode.
If you find yourself thinking if I could just work a little harder, or if I just brought myself to do this then I would succeed, you are more likely to fail because the truth is God designed us to trust Him to give us the desires of our heart! (Psalm 37:4). Instead of trying to work harder, commit your plans to Him, ask Him for grace to help you, and see if He will not do more than all you could ask for, hope, or imagine according to His Word, to establish abundant health in your life.
